The barrister’s wig is a legacy of our past. It is at once both a historical artifact and a continuing part of legal culture elsewhere in the Commonwealth. It’s a reminder that the way the legal system has run in the past won’t always fit with the modern world. In Canada, we lost the barrister’s wig long ago, but in many ways, we still live with a system that was designed in (and for) another place and time.

It’s time to get angry about the lack of access to justice for many Ontarians. It’s time to come together and talk about what we can all do to solve this problem. It’s time to try something new. It’s time to flip our wigs.
